Batman v Superman’s latest trailer unleashes Wonder Woman

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘s big bad villain has been revealed!

Not to be outdone by Marvel’s excellent Captain America: Civil War trailer, Warner Bros. have retaliated in fine style by dropping a fantastic new look at next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which features so much new footage it hurts.

There’s so much to talk about here, including more of Jesse Eisenberg’s new take on Lex Luthor as well as information on how Man of Steel‘s antagonist, General Zod, fits into the film’s plot after his body was seen heading into LexCorp’s vaults in the trailer released at this year’s Comic-Con. It looks like the epic battle between our two DC faves isn’t the only battle we’ll be seeing in the film, because Doomsday has been unleashed and it’ll take the combined forces of Batman, Superman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman to take him down!

You can watch the trailer in full above, but if you’ve been following the early reactions from the reveal online, you’ll be aware that it’s caused a bit of a stir due to the sheer amount of new content it contains, with some arguing that it gives a little too much away for their liking.

Another aspect of criticism that’s been widely reported is the design of Doomsday, with some saying that he (it?) looks a little too generic and unimpressive, comparing him to other film villains such as Hulk‘s Abomination and The Amazing Spider-Man‘s The Lizard. It’s entirely possible, however, that the version of Doomsday we see in the latest Batman v Superman trailer is still a work in progress, as it’s not unheard of for unfinished VFX shots to be included in trailers before being polished before a film’s final release. If you need proof of that, just take a look at the trailers for Jurassic World, which famously included a number of visual changes and shot improvements over the course of the film’s pre-promotional footage to what was eventually seen in the final cut, so I’d say that we shouldn’t put too much stock in the character’s form before we see the finished product.

Above and beyond all the awesome new reveals, there’s more of what we’ve already seen – Batman and Superman duking it out, the return of the Batwing and the new Batmobile and the political ramifications of Superman’s reveal in Man of Steel. It’s thrilling stuff, and just makes us want it to be 2016 already – even just for the tense tête-à-tête between Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne at Lex’s party in the opening moments of the trailer.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is directed by Zack Snyder and is due for a UK release on 25 March 2016. It stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White.
