Disney finds its Beauty in Emma Watson

Disney confirmed today that Watson has joined the cast of the upcoming live-action remake of the classic animation as Belle.

In a press release, Disney announced that Emma Watson – best known for her roles in the Harry Potter franchise and The Perks of Being a Wallflower – has been cast as Belle in their upcoming live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast.

Scheduled for release in 2016, Watson confirmed in a Facebook post that she will be dancing “to ‘Be Our Guest’ and ‘Something There’”, before going on to state that her “six year old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting”.

Beauty and the Beast is to be directed by Twilight’s Bill Condon, based on a screenplay by Stephen Chobsky, who previously directed Watson in Perks. The film will be based on the original 1991 Disney animation, which won two Oscars for Best Original Song and Best Score when it was originally released.
