Fifty Shades of Grey gets rated
The MPAA has officially classified the big-screen adaptation of E. L. James’s best-selling novels.
Fifty Shades of Grey has officially been certified ‘R’ – the highest classification available – by the MPAA – the Motion Picture Association of America.
Rated as such for “strong sexual content including dialogue, some unusual behavior and graphic nudity, and for language”, it is worth noting that the film may not receive the same classification when it hits UK shores on Valentine’s Day, as scenes are often cut or amended for international audiences – this was the case with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which was cut for UK audiences from its original 15 release to a 12A.
Fifty Shades of Grey stars Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey, alongside Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, and is based on the first novel in the Fifty Shades trilogy by E. L. James. An official UK certification has yet to be announced by the BBFC.
