Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has a title
Director James Gunn confirms the new title on Twitter.
After Marvel boss Kevin Feige seemingly let slip the title at a press junket for the latest instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has taken to Twitter to officially confirm that the sequel to the smash hit of 2014 is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Yes, the official title for the @Guardians sequel is GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2. Nice detective work, @colliderfrosty, etc! You got us!

The title is clearly a homage to the wildly popular soundtrack to the first film, which was marketed both in the film and in the accompanying home release as The Awesome Mix, Vol. 1, given to protagonist Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) by his mother as a young child at the start of the film. In the closing moments of the feature, Quill opens a present from his mother to reveal a follow-up to The Awesome Mix, aptly titled ‘Vol. 2’.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 currently has a release date of 5 May 2017 and will be preceded in the MCU by Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and followed by the as-yet-untitled Spider-Man reboot, which we now know will star Tom Holland in the lead role.
