Johnny Depp is back as Captain Jack Sparrow
The first official photo from Pirates 5 has been released.
It’s becoming something of a fad for directs to tweet exclusive and upcoming photos and videos from their productions of late, with Batman v Superman and Star Wars directors Zack Snyder and JJ Abrams both dropping major hints and exclusives about their respective releases on the social network, and now Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’s Jerry Bruckheimer has unveiled the first look at Johnny Depp in character as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is the fifth instalment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and stars recurring actors Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush as Captains Jack Sparrow, Will Turner and Barbossa, respectively, as well as new stars Kaya Scodelario (Skins, The Maze Runner) in an as-yet-unnamed role, Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men, Skyfall) as Captain Salazar and newcomer Brenton Thwaites.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is due for a UK release on 7 July 2017 and the official synopsis reads:
“Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea, including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.”
