Retrospective – Star Wars teaser trailers

As the first teaser for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens hits the Internet, we take a look back at the teasers for each film in the Star Wars saga.

From Episode I to Episode VI, a new Star Wars film is sure to gather attention. After the first teaser for The Force Awakens hit the Internet (or should that be ‘broke’ the Internet?) yesterday afternoon, we decided to take a look back at the original trailers for each of the six films in the saga.

With us being so used to the clarity and spectacle of HD nowadays, it’s refreshing to see the trailers for the films in the original trilogy raw and un-remastered, especially that of The Empire Strikes Back, which features concept art (yes, actual drawings), and The Return of the Jedi – the latter of which was originally titled Revenge of the Jedi.

The prequel trilogy, however, clearly plays heavily on the transformation of Anakin Skywalker and the emergence of Darth Vader, with the first teaser for Attack of the Clones purely soundtracked by his now-infamous wheezing.

Take a look at our YouTube playlist above, which features the original teasers for all seven* films in the Star Wars saga – how many can you remember seeing in your local cinema?

*We still can’t get over the thrill of now being able to count the number of films at seven, rather than six!
