Eddie Redmayne is Newt Scamander in J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Following the reveal of the official logo yesterday, which you can see below, Warner Bros. have today released the first promotional shots of Eddie Redmayne and co. filming J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The exclusive, granted to Entertainment Weekly, shows Redmayne in full costume as the film’s lead character, Newt Scamander, a ‘magizoologist’ in the middle of New York, as well as other members of the film’s cast, including Katherine Waterston as Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, and Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski.
Although very little is currently known about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, it has been confirmed that it will be the first in a planned trilogy which will neither form a prequel or sequel to the Harry Potter franchise. Instead, Fantastic Beasts will sit alongside the Potter saga and exist in the same universe, albeit some 70 years before Harry’s story begins. Entertainment Weekly’s scoop does, however, offer some new clues as to the film’s plot:
In our cover image … you get a first look at Scamander, his pivotal briefcase in hand, standing inside the entrance of the majestic art deco-influenced Magical Congress of the United States of America (or MACUSA), which is the American version of the Ministry of Magic that’s housed inside the Woolworth Building in the film.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Colin Farrell, Jon Voight, Ezra Miller and Ron Perlman.
