Full disclosure – we love Maze Runner, both the books and the cinematic adaptation of James Dashner’s best-selling novels, so imagine our excitement when the first trailer for the follow-up to 2014’s Maze Runner, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials hit our Twitter feed earlier today.

Picking up right where the first film left off, The Scorch Trials sees Thomas and his fellow escapees (or ‘Gladers’, as you may remember them being called) thrust into a world they hardly recognise – one which may leave them thinking they would have been better off staying in the titular Maze of the first film after all.

One of the reasons why we’re such big fans of this series is the quite frankly exceptional cast on display – Dylan O’Brien is perfect as Thomas and his on-screen relationship with Kaya Scodelario’s Teresa is great to watch. O’Brien’s name was bandied about relatively early on as a contender for the role of Marvel’s new Spider-Man/Peter Parker and after his performance in MTV’s Teen Wolf, we really did think he’d be perfect for the job; sadly, it now looks like he’s out of the running as the studio are looking for someone much younger for the role, so it’s nice to see him back on our screens before season five of Teen Wolf starts in the States next month. Obviously, other members of the cast may be more familiar to viewers outside of their Maze Runner roots, with Thomas Sangster playing a relatively large role in HBO’s Game of Thrones as Jojen Reed, whilst another GoT family member, Aiden Gillan – who plays the duplicitous Littlefinger – joins the cast for this second outing.

We named Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials as one of our Top 10 must-see films of 2015, so we’re already counting down the days until we can head to our local cinema to see this one. You can see the first poster for the film below, which was unveiled today alongside the trailer.
