Transformers 5 is The Last Knight

Universal Studies have today announced the title and principal cast for the latest instalment in the Transformers series.

The fifth film in the Transformers saga has today been officially unveiled to the world, and it carries the subtitle The Last Knight.

Starring returning actor Mark Wahlberg in the lead role of Cale Yaegher, as well as Josh Duhamel as Lieutenant Colonel Lennox, Transformers: The Last Knight will take place after the events of 2014’s Age of Extinction, where Wahlberg made his debut in the franchise. Interestingly, Duhamel’s Lennox is a throwback to the original trilogy which starred Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky, so it’s nice to see the studio is still interested in retaining strong plot links to the originals!

Commercially, each film in the Transformers series has been quite well received, however critically, they’ve not gone down too well, so it remains to be seen if Universal are going to be able to hit the nail on the head with this one. If it does get the same negative critical reception as its predecessors, it may have an impact on the other films in the Transformers extended universe which are currently in the pipeline – the first of which is the solo Bumblebee spin-off film which is scheduled to hit cinemas in 2018.

Transformers: The Last Knight will be released to cinemas on 23 June 2017, with principal photography commencing in Detroit over the coming months.
