Vin Diesel teases Furious 8

The actor has teased Furious 8 on his Instagram feed.

In an Instagram post today, lead actor Vin Diesel has teased the much-awaited Furious 8, the first instalment in a new trilogy which will conclude with Furious 10 in a couple of years time.

Directed by F. Gary Gray, who is most famous for last year’s Straight Outta ComptonFurious 8 will film in New York and Cuba, and is set for a UK release on 14 April 2017.

In an interview with Collider, Gray has gone on the record to say that Furious 8 (most likely titled Fast & Furious 8 in the UK, in line with previous films in the series) will be inspired heavily by J.J. Abrams’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens:

When you look at someone like J.J. Abrams who gives you the spectacle and great action set pieces but also gives you character and plotting and narrative, I think it’s my job—and my intention—to do both.

Teasing “new roads ahead”, Diesel’s image hints at both the new New York setting, as well as the new trilogy of films which will apparently serve as a conclusion to the franchise. Furious 8 will be the first in the series not to feature the late Paul Walker, with the exception of 2006’s Tokyo Drift, after his untimely passing during filming of the film’s most recent instalment, Furious 7.
