X-Men: Apocalypse casts three

The sequel to 2014’s Days of Future Pastadds three young actors to its roster.

Young versions of popular X-Men characters Storm, Jean Grey and Cyclops have been cast in X-Men: Apocalypse, the sequel to 2014’s Days of Future Past.

Director Bryan Singer announced today via Twitter that Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner and Tye Sheridan will play the parts, respectively.

Although Shipp and Sheridan are relative newcomers, keen fans will immediately recognise Turner as currently starring in HBO’s Game of Thrones, in which she plays Sansa Stark, the daughter of Sean Bean’s (spoiler alert) ill-fated character from the first season.

Apocalypse is set to be released on 19 May 2016, and it was recently confirmed that X-Men alumni Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan, who have played the characters of Professor X and Magneto since the film franchise began in 2000, will not be reprising their roles in this next outing.
